Training Banner

We are committed to helping our carers develop further skills, knowledge and qualifications, particularly to ensure foster families feel emotionally secure and confident.

A comprehensive and extensive training programme is available for foster carers at different stages of the process to meet their individual needs, and help deal with the needs of the children in their care.

We’ll continue to support you to develop you skills with training and qualifications throughout your fostering career.

Pre-approval training

You will receive three days preparation training. You will get this training either before your assessment begins or during the assessment period. The training is your opportunity to gain insight into the role of a foster care and to give you some of the knowledge and skills to be a foster carer.

Approval training

Once you are approved you will have the opportunity to attend a number of training courses throughout the year, including: understanding the foster carers’ roles and responsibilities, child protection, first aid, managing challenging behaviour, internet safety and more.

You will have a professional development plan which will identify your current skills and training that you would benefit from to improve your knowledge and skills. Individual training is also available should it be needed.

BCBC foster carers are also able to take additional qualifications to help build their professional status.
